Intimate Partner Femicide: using Foucauldian analysis to track an eight stage relationship progression to homicide.

Dr Jane Monckton Smith, University of Gloucester

The killing of women by their intimate, or former intimate, partners is a serious social, criminal justice and public health issue. There are significant pressures on public services in the UK to reduce the number of deaths, safeguard women and gather more information to aid in assessing risk.

Dr Jane Monckton Smith is a forensic criminologist working in the area of intimate partner homicide. She has recently published new research that aims to develop an understanding of nonclinical risk assessment by organising the perpetrator journey to homicide using temporal sequencing and drawing from coercive control discourse.
