This website is run by the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board (SETDAB). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and font,
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
- We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is
Our website has internal options to change contrast and text size. Additionally our content can also be altered within internet browsers to change size, font and colour of text and content can be navigated via keyboards. Google translate is also embedded within our website. Most screen reader software can read our website content, including PDF documents on our website.
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text directly within the website however you can use an external browser extension, to change this for you, such as this one for Chrome.
- video platforms that we link to do not have captions.
What to do if you can’t access parts of this website
If you need information on this website in a different format like large print, easy read, audio recording or braille email the SET DA Team at domestic.abuseessex@essex.gov.uk.
We’ll consider your request and get back to you within 20 working days. However please be aware that a lot of our website content is produced by other organisations and we may not be able to edit some documents supplied to us.

Issues with technology
User cannot modify the line height or spacing of text on our website at the current time; we are exploring this with our website developer to see if this can be built into our website in the future. However you can use an external browser extension, such as this one for Chrome, to change this for you.
Additionally the text size can be altered on website browsers to make wording easier to read.
Issues with images, video and audio
Our videos on our website don’t have captions. We realise that this is still an important part of our web content. However, we will be focusing our efforts on increasing the accessibility of other areas first. We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Issues with interactive tools and transactions
We do not host any interactive forms directly on our website at this time.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
During 2021, we have continued to improve the accessibly of our website by seeking support from other organisations to help us to fully understand which aspects of our website need to be improved first, as our partnership only has limited resources to invest in the further development of our website at this time.
We have also advertised for people who are interested in helping us improve our website and will continue to reach out to people our website’s home page
